Port Sunlight Lyceum Band owes it’s origins to the Drum & Bugle Band of the First Port Sunlight Company of the Boys’ Brigade. A Brass Band was formed in 1973 and has since become the Lyceum Brass but they are all closely linked with the Boys’ Brigade. Membership grow with the inclusion of female members and the lifting of the restriction. The Band entered their first contest at Belle Vue in 1978.
5 decades later the band continues to grow in membership and has at this me around 30 members registered with the Brass Band Registry which has restrictions on the number that can perform within contesting rules. These contests are a vital part of ‘Banding’ but concerts occupy the Band’s me for most of the year. The Band supports the village of Port Sunlight by performing at many of the venues within the village including services and concerts at Christ Church, the United Reformed Church in the village.
